Fueling a Stronger Future

The Carolinas Capital Club unites credit union advocates in the Carolinas to support our political action committees (PAC). Your membership and contributions help us champion state and federal candidates who uphold credit union principles.

Understanding the Club

Political action committees, also called PACs, are used by organizations such as CCUL for the purpose of raising and spending money to help elect candidates who are supportive of their industry. Contributions are distributed among our three PACs: Federal PAC (Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund), CUPAC of NC, and CUPAC of SC. The Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund shares funds with America’s Credit Unions’ Credit Union Legislative Action Council (CULAC) for contributions to federal candidates. Funds allocated to our two state PACs are used for contributions to state candidates.

Most importantly, the Carolinas Capital Club is nonpartisan with allocations approved by the League’s Governmental Affairs Committees. PAC contributions are given to candidates meeting one or more of these criteria: (1) Understand credit unions and the challenges they face; (2) Have a favorable position on issues impacting credit unions; and (3) Serve on a key committee or in a leadership role.

State and federal lawmakers make daily decisions with significant impact on credit unions. Competing financial institutions, often with differing priorities, actively lobby, campaign, and support candidates who align with their interests. To keep our movement strong, credit unions must support and elect candidates who share our vision. That’s where the Carolinas Capital Club comes in—through it, we advocate for leaders committed to our mission and the communities we serve!

Disclaimer

PAC Contributions are not deductible as charitable contributions for Federal income tax purposes. The Carolinas Capital Club is funded by voluntary contributions. You have the right to refuse to contribute without reprisal. Contributions will be used for political purposes. Federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of individuals whose contributions exceed $200 in a calendar year. The recommended contribution amount is only a suggestion. You may give more or less than the suggested amount. The Carolinas Credit Union League will not favor or disadvantage anyone by reason of the amount of their contribution or their decision not to contribute.

Your PAC contribution will be divided between Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund (Federal PAC) and CUPAC of NC (North Carolina members) or CUPAC of SC (South Carolina members) in percentages established by the Carolinas Credit Union League. A certain percentage will be devoted to your state PAC. You may elect to have your contribution divided differently. Annual notice of the federal-state division will be published on the Carolinas Capital Club website in December of each year.

Federal law requires your credit union to grant approval through a signed permission agreement to solicit contributions to Carolinas Credit Union Defense Fund (Federal PAC). If your credit union has not granted this approval, your contribution will be deposited to CUPAC of NC (North Carolina members) or CUPAC of SC (South Carolina members).
